Kaiote - A Brand for the Future

Kaiote formally began as a class project during my sophomore year of college, but the inspiration grew from something much deeper. A lifetime spent in the outdoors fostered a desire to somehow repay the thing that brought me the most joy - the natural world.

Through the experience of working for several apparel companies, as well as the process of trying to find sustainable clothing options myself, I began to realize just how destructive the apparel industry is to our environment and our world. Many brands use unethical labor practices, allow toxic dyes and petroleum based inks to leach into water supplies, and produce clothing using unsustainable fabrics and microplastics which wreak havoc on our environment and our health.

So…I started my own company. Welcome to Kaiote, fully sustainable clothing that’s made in the U.S.A. with a mission to give back to what inspires us - the natural world.

The Problem

In the era of climate change, sustainability is more important than ever. The fashion industry has yet to realize that. Learn more about how destructive the fashion industry really is…

The fashion industry is responsible for 10% of global emissions every year, more than all commercial flights and maritime shipping combined.
500,000 tons of microplastic textile waste are dumped into the ocean every year (the equivalent of 50 billion plastic water bottles).
93,000,000,000 cubic meters of water (or enough drinking water for 5 million people) is used to produce clothing every year. Yup, you read that right. That’s 9 (nine) zeroes.
In addition, 20% of wastewater comes from fabric treatment and dying, meaning toxic clothing dyes are being spread into water supplies around the world.
87% of all material used when making clothing ends up in a landfill or being incinerated.

Our solution

Minimal Waste Manufacturing

All Kaiote products are made of 100% recycled material. No new material, no water used in fiber production, no toxic dyes or chemicals.

A revolutionary circular system.

Sustainable Printing and Dyeing

Kaiote products are printed using algae or water based, non-polyvinyl chloride (PVC) inks, and dyed with natural, plant based inks.

Compostable Packaging

All Kaiote products are sent to you in a fully compostable mailer and garment bag, both made out of plant material. Zero plastic. Simply toss it in a compost bin when you’re done and help your local ecosystem thrive.

Circular Recycling

All Kaiote products come with an algae ink printed QR code near the clothing tag. Instead of throwing out your clothes when you’re done with them, scan the QR code, request a mailer, and send them back to us to be made into new Kaiote products.

10% of profits back to the outdoors

Partnering with environmental, ecological, and wildlife restoration organizations, we make your money go farther. 
We plan to raise our donation percentage to 20-30% of profits once we can afford to do so.
